This noble Mimosa Chardonnay Josef Reserve MCMXLIV (1944) was produced for the first time in a limited edition in honor of Bernhard Hess’s father, Josef (Sepp) Hess, on his 70th birthday. The 2022 is the 6th vintage coming onto the market.
A light straw yellow with honey yellow reflections sparkles in the glass. The nose is surrounded by sublime aromas of honeydew melon and lychee with a delicate hint of vanilla. The palate is rich in green apple and pineapple with elegant roasted almonds. A warm mid-palate, rich in mineral characters with perfectly balanced acidity, leads to a long finish of stone fruit, melon and light almond nut. A complex wine with a long finish and aging potential.
SELECTION AND AGEING
The grapes come from a single vineyard. Fermentation took place only with the grape’s natural yeasts. A total of 12 barriques matured in second-fill French oak for 7 months with minimal intervention. The top three were selected for their elegance and only 900 bottles were bottled. A fine Chardonnay was created as a homage to Josef Hess!
