Mimosa Mysterium 2022 – Magnum 1.5 lt

There is no need to rush to create a wine like Mysterium. That’s why on November 25th, Bernhard, Lourens and Didi sat down at a table in Montagu. The various wine samples ( Shiraz , Mourvèdre , Grenache ) were tasted and evaluated without any time pressure. The quality was impressive, a fantastic 2020 vintage! The blending of the individual grape varieties required a lot of time and peace. We were thrilled with the result and the Mysterium is now ready for delivery in the Seengen warehouse. Convince yourself of the beautiful and well-rounded wine in the style of a Rhône Blend but from South Africa, at the Wine & Dine and the tasting in Seengen.

The wine is now in the fruit phase. On the nose notes of blueberries and raspberries, fynbos, black pepper. Blackcurrants, crushed cloves and ground coffee on the palate. Due to the barrel aging, some vanilla with nicely integrated roasted aromas. The fruit, acidity and supple tannins have bound each other almost perfectly. A rich cuvée with good concentration and finesse.
You can give the “mystery” some time. But it clearly shows the storage potential.

ASSEMBLAGE
60% Shiraz , 25% Grenache , 15% Mourvèdre

TIP
The wine can be drunk. We recommend aerating it well, i.e. decanting it so that the aromas can fully develop. It increases with 1 to 2 years of storage.

NOTE
The Magnum bottle is more expensive to purchase and transport also costs more than a 75cl bottle. That’s why the price is slightly higher than the price of 2 individual bottles. The wine can be stored for longer and the bottle presents beautifully with a fine meal.

WHY A MAGNUM BOTTLE CAN BE IDEAL

At 1.5 liters, a magnum is twice the size of a typical wine bottle. You can drink a magnum over several days. 1.5 liters make around 14 glasses of wine.

If it is a quality wine, after the bottle has been opened and you have had a glass or two, you can simply put the cork back in. Place the wine in the refrigerator. The cold prevents oxidation and, on top of that, the wines love a bit of air and really come into their own on the second or third day. Pour a glass full five minutes before continuing to enjoy it and the wine will soon have reached a temperature of around 17 degrees. Just right to enjoy!

Magnums are definitely a small niche – but it’s always worth storing a few in the basement. Because they age more slowly due to the lower oxygen to wine ratio in the bottle compared to standard 75cl bottles. Do the experiment, we hope you enjoy it!
